Go West…

Yesterday I was in Glasgow and had a most enjoyable visit. I thought you might be interested to see the two photos l took of a H.L.I drill hall-

  1. I was sorry to miss Glasgow on my two visits to Scotland - we saw, it seemed, everything else. I was hoping to visit all the Highland regimental museums but HLI was one that escaped me. Perhaps next time.

  2. What a shame that you couldn't see what survives inside.

One of our local territorial / volunteers drill halls is now a Cinema and only the outside is still intact with stone sign showing, but I did see inside it when it was used as an indoor market.

    1. I was also interested in how they were used. I assume they had an armoury to maintain and store weapons, a hall to drill in and rooms for lectures etc? Perhaps I am wrong...

  3. I'm afraid, Jennifer, this one is not a museum. After the HLI had moved on it became the base for the 15th Scottish Volunteer Battalion (Parachute) and after they moved on it was converted into residential flats. A beautiful building though and still worth a visit.

  5. Whereabouts in Glasgow is this Alan...as an exiled Weegie I can't place it at all.

    1. I think it is in Yorkhill Alastair, a brief walk from the Kelvingrove Art Gallery.

  6. I don't know what an "H.L.I drill hall" is (something military?), but the exterior looks cool. :)
