My heart’s in the Highlands...

I have not  been in Inverness since the mid eighties but am glad to be here albeit very briefly for a celebration. The train journey is through glorious country and I had forgotten just how stunning it is. Managed to have time to pop into Inverness Art Gallery and Museum as well as a vast second hand bookshop in an old church. I hope to return soon.

  3. I have a lot of fondness for Inverness. I've stayed there for a few days on 2 separate occasions/holidays. Went to Culloden, Cawdor Castle and Fort George one of those times. Also used it as a home base for excursions to the Orkneys, Loch Ness, Skye, etc.

  4. The museum and art gallery are always worth a visit, and Leakeys book shop is a place you can easily lose an hour or three.

  5. Looking forward to hearing all about your trip. I haven't managed to visit my home town (city!) for a year or so. Hopefully soon.

    2. Agree re illustration. I would have taken a video but the wood would not remain still.

  7. I spent an hour or two in Inverness when doing my $5 a day version of a Grand Tour in '74. (Travelling by thumb primarily)
If I wandered into that book store though, I might still be there!

  9. I've been in that bookshop. Asked the proprietor if he needed an extra employee...
