Mark’s Little Soldiers- rules?

I wonder if anyone has given thought to what rules they are going to use with Mark’s Little Soldiers?

  1. I'm thinking of using a version of the rules from Memoir 44

    2. Yes when I finally get around to it , might use the movement/firing mechanisms but not the cards ?

  2. In keeping with the nostalgic spirit of the figures, "Operation Warboard" by Gavin Lyall?

  3. I think Bob Cordery's Portable Wargame rules would be suitable, as they include rules for armoured vehicles and aircraft.

  4. As usual I'm writing my own though drawing quite a bit on Memoir 44. I'd going for a square grid rather than a hex grid as it seems more appropriate to the time period. I'm planning to use event cards to add some unpredictability (and fun).

  5. Years ago Ian Kay of Irregular Miniatures produced a lovely set of Spanish Civil War rules. They were fun, simple to learn and captured exactly the period with all its weird and wonderful weapons.Contact him, he may still have a set kicking about.

  6. Given the deliberately nostalgic look of the figures, how about the original HG Wells "Little Wars" rules?

  7. A lovely conceit, an interwar Wells with smaller figures. My nostalgia rules would be Battle ! practical wargaming if I had to pick a set to match the figures…

  8. If I remember them correctly, artillery rules in 'Little Wars' might be awkward...

  9. If I ever get a play set of Mark’s troops, I’m going to do Shambattle for sure! As it stands, seeing all my blogging compatriots dive in, I’ve been mulling through our box of plastic toy soldiers looking for some that can quell the desire for a bit. Haha!
