Hmmm. I guess it might be entertaining but it does not have the same attraction and excitement as 'killing' thousands of little plastic and metal people.

It is quite an interesting idea though Alan, thanks for sharing the link. My own children are well past being interested in this type of thing (21 and 24) ; we did use to play a soldier game with the cheap $2 shop plastic soldiers, where we set them up on the floor and rolled glass marbles at them, but that's a few years ago now, unfortunately!
ReplyDeleteMy own children are also grown up. I never really got them into the hobby in any shape or form. Life was busy them in diverse ways. Enjoyed reading to/with them and playing board games.

That's a nice find - thanks for sharing. Reminds me of "Moby Dick - The Wargame" in an old magazine, or "Pigsticking" by Wargames Developments (I think) but a further step removed from the violence!

There are lots of cooperative family boardgames on non-war themes, such a living forest and forbidden island. Pandemic is a classic coop game where you all work together to destroy the diseases ravaging the planet (first published 2007 - I think) but the theme may have a familiar ring. And there are games based on popular genres such as the 'Famous Five'.
ReplyDeleteForbidden Island and Forbidden Desert are great favourites in this household. Pandemic too . A wonderful board game is Tokaido , which has figures and a wonder aesthetic quality to it.
