Invasion Plans

Over the weekend I have been reading this enjoyable book about America’s plans to invade Canada and vice versa. It was an easy read but engrossing.

Particularly interesting to me was the audacious plan for Canada to invade America and the figure of
James Sutherland Brown who undertook plain clothes reconnaissance trips to America in the first half of the  1920. Here is a link to the plan he came up with- https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defence_Scheme_No._1

  2. This was the book which formed the content of a TV documentary about five years ago? Luckily, I had a dvd recorder. I can see some scenarios in which Canadian partisans take out supply systems over the border, JSB was a clever fellow. Some on both sides felt the Naval clash would determine the outcome for Canada and the Empire.

  3. I seem to remember a comedy film from the 80s in which Canada inadvertently 'invaded' the US. Lots of jokes about politeness (the Canadians), "aboot" and ending sentences in "eh".

My O-Level History teacher had a string of recurring anecdotes, one of which concerned him and his young pals attending a speech given by an aged Jellicoe (I think). The admiral talked about sinking the US fleet, and ended with a quivering crescendo: "and Britain can conquer the world!". Upon which the youths stood up, mockingly gave the Nazi salute and shouted "Sieg Heil!".

  7. You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be actually something that I think I would never understand. It seems too complex and extremely broad for me. I'm looking forward for your next post, I'll try to get the hang of it!
