Back to the future

On Friday l will be playing a renaissance Wargame with my regular opponents , P and G. After much chat we have decided to give DBR a whirl. I looked out my copy from the Ducal Library and noticed it had been bought in April 2004! I also found in the rules movement sticks l made of paper then laminated. I recall nothing of the rules and need to do some homework before Friday. I will tell you how the game goes in another post…

Whilst away the above book from Helion arrived. I have only had time for a quick look so can’t comment yet. This will be added to my Flodden books, book on The Battle of Linlithgow and Osprey tome on Scottish Renaissance Armies. A fascinating period and one rarely seen on the Wargames table.

  1. Nice to see DBR being given a play again. I always liked the DBx system. Have you chaps looked at Twilight of Divine Right? I've recently taken to Twilight of the Sun King and like the mechanisms so I've now got Divine Right and Soldier Kings.

  3. My current sort out f the toy cupboard has resulted inthe dust being blown off my Tudor and Scots armies from the 1970/80s. Three 48 figure strong pike blocks for the Scots, two from Dixon figures, can't now remember the make of the third. Plus lots of wild highlanders! Partly inspired by Charlie Wesencraft's excellent Pike & Shit book and an excellent little book about Flodden (Almark?) which sadly seems to have disappeared from my shelves. An example of the fascinating spectrum of renaissance battles.

  4. What a fantastic find Brian, you are most fortunate. The Almark Flodden title is an excellent book with great illustrations and useful text. Fortunately l can still find my copy on the shelves.
