It was fifty years ago this year or For Mark and others- pictures from the 1971 Airfix catalogue
Thank you very much, Alan. A cheery way to start the weekend. Good to see the Vintage Classics range is back (for now). https://uk.airfix.com/shop/figures As ever with Airfix buy now whilst stocks last. Fortunately I have some of these playset buildings from childhood or the 90s rereleases when they were the only source of such figures. Were there separate pages for 1:32 and OOHO figures?
Ah, such nostalgia! I remember the excitement of the new catalogue coming out each year. And the horror when the price of a box went up to two shillings (10p) and would never be affordable again. Ronnie
Lots of fun looking at these. They bring to mind similar photos in the old Sears and Montgomery Ward autumn catalogs here in the U.S., which were the size and weight of old telephone directories and sent out two or three months before Christmas each year.
Brilliant stuff, I used to love getting the catalogues, great fun looking at them again and again. I had a good few of the playsets, they were always good fun, never took much persuasion for the old man to join in! Super memories from this post.
Cheers Alan, very nostalgic! I see that my trusty German WW2 'early model' OO/HO infantry were still in the range in '71 - probably around the time I would have bought them, for something like 17p or 19p, I think...
Thanks for bringing back a lot of great memories , I loved thumbing through those catalogues something I do miss in this digital age .
ReplyDeleteI miss non virtual catalogues too. Glad the photos brought back memories.

DeleteTradgardmastare,
ReplyDeleteIf only the kits were as cheap as they were back then!
All the best,
Bob

Glad you enjoyed it.
DeleteBrilliant... so many memories... and I'd forgotten the ships despite having built two or three of them!
ReplyDeleteEvery time I look at it it reminds me of something I had forgotten.

Christmas catalogues , the joys indeed. I recall my mum getting the Jenner’s one and pouring over the toy section.
DeleteFantastic stuff!

ReplyDeleteThe play sets were excellent fun. I particularly liked the costal defence one.
