Uniform print find
Ostmerk uniform print-
Found in a small, dilapidated bookshop just off the Cathedral Square in the capital. The owner recalled seeing his father in a similar uniform back in the 1930’s.
Ostmerk can still be found by the observant traveller today, a quiet backwater that has successfully kept herself off most maps. A wrong turning can find you there , in the remnants of middle Europe, just around the corner and over the next hill… Alan Tradgardland
I was most fortunate to visit Ostmerk as a boy whilst holidaying with my parents. The aforementioned bookshop was fascinating even to a youngster. My late father ( buyer of Jane’s fighting Ships in his younger days) managed to find a history of the Ostmerk Navy which , being a landlocked country consisted of vessels to patrol and guard the Great River. Alan Tradgardland P.S l managed to pick up a Tintin book written in the Ostmerk tongue but with glorious illustrations. I later heard Herge was a frequent visitor to the area.
What a nice old print. I happen to be partial to Austria myself.
