Derek Guyler, a couple of photo related questions

Derek Guyler was one of these actors which featured a great deal in the television of my youth. He played a variety of characters particularly in  comedy programmes. Some of you will remember him. He was also a wargamer. I was looking at a couple  pictures of him this week on line.
This one is well known to me. I have edited out Phil Barker ( no offence meant) in order to concentrate on the non elephant figures. I normally focus my attention on the wonderful elephants and so ignore the other two larger figures which I assume to be 54mm . Does anyone recognise them?
The second picture ,below, is new to me. The siege tower is a fantastic piece of work. I assume it to be scratchbuilt or perhaps 70mm Elastolin? Does anyone know?

  1. The figures in the first picture aren't too clear (even blown up) but they look to be a largish 54mm+ compared against the 30mm flats, going by the style and the thin base I would hazard a guess to say they were Gauls by Stadden (but not confident enough to put money on it!) who was the leading manufacturer of "connoisseur" models before the 1970's.

The siege tower looks home made, certainly not Elastolin (and I think I'd be safe putting money on that).

    1. Thanks Brian. I had wondered if the 54mms were Rose Miniatures.

  4. Recognise Mr. Guyler but not the figures. The Guardian obituary of him is worth a read... quite touching.

  5. The figures look like flats to me. Looking at Berliner Zinnfiguren. It may not be that manufacturer but they stock other. Website slow in loading but I'll look. It's a quiet day after all!

  7. Given Derek Guyler's long association with the BMSS and how young he looked in the photograph I would hazard a guess the figures are flats.Although members were casting their own rounds they look to good to be anything but flats. Everything I have read about him explains what a decent bloke he was.
