Reading etc

It was a particularly sunny day here in the Duchy yesterday and I spent most of it in the garden. I had put some of my birthday money towards a book and yesterday was a chance to explore it. The book in question was “The Oxford Handbook of The European Bronze Age” and it is a formidable tome at around just under a thousand pages. It is accessible to a layman like me and filled with fascinating facts and insights not to mention theories. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who has an interest in the period.

Later on in the evening I acquired card from my  daughter and produced some bases for the flat figures. The ruling of lines and cutting of card is surprisingly absorbing and I will base the figures this morning.

  1. Snap! I was ruling, cutting out and painting basing then edging it with black marker ready for basing more rogue 15mm figures. It is strangely calming, like undercoating.
1000 pages should keep you busy. I have the equivalent thick Bronte "Oxford Handbook to ..."

    1. I find it more calming than undercoating because I normally flick the paint around ( especially on bigger figures ) and make a fine spray that gets everywhere.

  2. HI Alan- Yes, you have a lot of Flat Figures to base up - assume the bases will not be too wide- just enough for stability.

    1. Twenty by thirty mm for infantry and twenty by forty for cavalry. Enough to make a reasonable frontage for gaming and it makes the model stable too.

  3. Sounds like an interesting book. Does it focus on warfare or all facets of Bronze Age life?
