What l am working on: the Fenian Raids 1866

I am currently working on some figures to depict the Battle of Ridgeway in 1866. The Fenian troops ( not to mention some splendid rail fencing) were sent to me by the Mad Padre some time ago. I have added some Minifigs and am currently working on four units each of twelve figures. There are many more rail fences to be flocked which will provide some great scenery. I am indebted to Mike for sending me these figures etc which have awaited TL C for nearly two years.

To oppose the above l intend to buy some Perry figures depicting the Canadian forces of the period. Some time later l want to expand things to look at what ifs and other Fenian Raids scenarios. This project will work towards the release of Mersey & Leck’s forthcoming “Rebels and Patriots “ rules due to be published in January 2019.

  1. It will be quite interesting to see how you play this out. And it seems that the original 'Lion Rampant' rules are moving out into many different directions!

    1. The LR rules are both accessible and fun. I am looking forward to seeing how they play out for the 19th century come January.

  2. Interesting post and subject. Lion Rampant does seem to be very adaptable and I will be looking into Chariot and Elephant Rampant soon.

    Cheers, Ross

  3. The Fenian raids and Battle of Ridgeway have always been of interest to me - being bit of a Canadian military history - one of those little projects I'd like to get to SOMEDAY! I'd thought Men Who Would Be Kings would be great to do it with (along with the Battle of Batoche and the Northwest Rebellion), but now that you mention it, Rebels and Patriots might be more appropriate. I'm quite looking forward to Rebels and Patriots as I have a pile of figures for the Seven Years War in North America!

    1. I too have loads of syw figures which l will try the rules with too. The Northwest Rebellion would be interesting to game too,l have always liked the Rafm figures for it. I feel the Fenian Raids will work well with the rules and give a variety of gaming challenges and what ifs.

Just wait seven years and you can send the Mounties in to sort it all out! This is what I have done with the Peter Laing figures you sent to me:

  5. There is a chapter on this Fenian Raid in Ian Hernon's Britains Forgotten Wars being three books republished in one, the last book being called Blood in the Sand. Should be in the library.
