Finished a few recruits for Transilvania -
A Skoda 75mm Mountain Howitzer to support the infantry.
Finally in some boxes of Strelets each sprue comes with a 17th century Strelsi figure. This was the case with Italian figures l recently used as Volare Cantare troops. So l popped the four figures aside and had a wee think. What I came up with was using them as woodsmen/hunters/ trappers with no formal military training but good shots. They were recruited in times of war by the Transilvanian army. They will be deployed in my games with a defensive ( last line of defence ?) role , probably to hold a wood village or bridge . They can retreat but not advance. We will see how it goes…

About the Streltsi. You've made clever use of them! My Turcowaz Army comprising Strelets-R figures, and the Izumrud-Zeleniya 1st Army having a sizeable contingent of them, I find myself with 16(!) Streltsi figures, all identical, with a firearm draped over one shoulder, and a vicious looking axe-thingy held with the butt end on the ground. I must have been given some at some time. All painted and irregularly arranged 4 to a base - four bases. A Division.
They had a role as the guard regiment in the service of the Corsairs of the Coast, a few years ago, but never saw action. Now, your 'Streltsi' have the look, perhaps, of Grenzer-type part-time irregulars. By the way, I wouldn't be quite so restrictive in their use, perhaps at least having an active role in National Defence.
My guys look a little bit too ceremonial for that! Haven't really figured out a role for them in my Little Great War, but I reckon they deserve a place. I'm a bit bereft of ideas on this score!
