Dundreich at the show yesterday

The highlight for me was seeing PD Hancock’s layout . I had seen some of it in January at the Glasgow Show but this being a special 75th anniversary show of the club, more was there to be enjoyed.

In m any ways PDHancock is the model railway of Charles Grant , Donald Featherstone and perhaps HG Wells rolled into one. Enjoy the pictures then read more at the links below-

The founding charter of the railway.

Brilliant scratch building. Card l imagine.

Notice the use of some Airfix fortifications in the background.
The equestrian statue from the Sherif of Nottingham Airfix set.
Airfix’s Roman Fort l think.

  2. Now those 'blogger hiccups' seems to be happening here as well. Your previous post is the one that shows up as your last on on my blogger link list. If you go to 'Feedburner' you can manually update your blogger feed.

Very nice layout. I really like the incorporated Airfix details.

  3. Tradgardmastare,

Thank you for sharing these images of PD Hancock’s buildings and what remains of his layout. His use of bits and pieces from Airfix kits and figure sets shows imagination … and it’s interesting that they are now available again!

    All the best,

    Bob

    1. Glad you enjoyed them. It was terrific to be able to see PDH’s work close up and appreciate the modelling skills on display. Probably the highlight of my model railway show going for some time.

  4. Interesting to see these fragments and holy model railroad relics - still inspiring after many years!

    1. Absolutely still inspiring, the stand was mobbed by folk, or rather had a steady , enthusiastic stream talking, looking and appreciating.

  5. Classic stuff. He pretty well originated narrow gauge modelling in 4mm scale running on 9mm gauge track in 1950 when little was available beyond wheels and rail, motors and gears. Along with John Ahern he was a great advocate of realistic scenery on model railways. And yes, the buildings are all cardboard, bits of stripwood and celluloid for the windows.

  6. John Ahern is another almost magical name. Talented photographer and wonderful model maker. If interested follow this link-
