Ancient Ancients

I got these New Kingdom Egyptians second hand some tome ago. I looked them out as I am starting my Archaeology open learning course in around ten days and my thoughts and reading are beginning to move to the ancient Near East. I have left these figures neglected and the horses have waited to long in the stables whilst the lead men twiddle their thumbs awaiting a battle. The figures are classic Lamming Miniatures and I am taken with their simplicity. Incidentally East Riding Miniatures sell modern castings of Lamming figures if you are interested to complete an old project or even start a new one. My Egyptians will probably fight over a gridded desert .
In the days to come...

Games

I have been playing a few games enjoyably over the last few days. Firstly dark age skirmishing using the dbv rules in my weekly Zoom game hosted by my regular opponent and against a mutual friend. As ever the game was exciting, the factors and rules carried in our heads. Also been playing at home-

I really enjoyed a small Ancients battle using the On Hour Rules, simple but effective system. The girls and I played our first game of Flamme Rouge. We found it really engaging with excitement mounting as the race progressed. Definitely a family favourite in the making. I would recommend it to anyone, simple to learn but full of tactical challenges, super.

A wee walk on the second of January 2021

Here are some photos of an enjoyable local walk before everything became too icy. The fairy houses I posted some time ago have been added to by snowmen and a political message. I am looking forward to walking once the ice clears.

Stalled

My painting has stalled and now stopped. I ended 2020 with big plans and purchased for them as well as preparing old ones for them too. I was overwhelmed and put them away, horrified by the thought of it. Since Lockdown began and in the days leading up to it I made lesser plans and dabbled . I didn’t like anything I produced and the lid has been shut on the painting desk. Enthusiasm for a wee imagination project has waned, the spirit being willing but the flesh weak. My mojo has left the stage...

Last March I threw myself into gardening and my old toy soldier figure converting ( the physical process and research absorbed me ) now I can’t settle to any hobby stuff really . The hours seem long and I know in the scale of things this isn’t important but I miss the therapy lead brought.

Paper Soldiers

Before Christmas I sent off to Spain for these quirky paper soldiers and postcards by the same artist-

They are one sided, like the paper soldiers of my youth as opposed to the paper boys of today. They depict soldiers, civilians and buildings of the Late Roman Period. I like their bold fun style.

Potemkin uniforms etc

Snow overnight here in the Duchy and problems with the internet currently.  Yesterday I got out the Funcken volume bought in 1983 and had a go at painting some 60mm plastic figures as a wee change. Same period different nationality, in this case Russian. Not feeling the vibe re painting but trying to paint through it.
