Accentuate the positive…

 Tested positive later today!

I guess I won’t be guiding in the Fringe after all, for the moment.

Claymore- where worlds collide

I had an enjoyable visit to the Claymore show yesterday. We arrived early, parked with ease and proceeded to have a most pleasant breakfast In Morrisons next door. I went with a couple of my regular opponents and enjoyed catching up with other folk too. Wargamers from my youth, from my Uni club, from where I live and one I finally met having seen him in Zoom meetings for what seems an age now. Wargaming worlds colliding indeed. Here are photos of some of the games-

A splendid ACW game run by very friendly folk. Had a big chat about rules with them. They kindly demonstrated their rules by running through examples.
A Wars of the Roses game I think but can’t quite recall.
Border Reiver skirmish games with forthcoming rules and figures.
More splendid ACW figures, cavalry, with nice status marker display thingy.
I was very taken with the terrain for this game which looked terrific.
Wars of the Roses game. I was a tad disappointed they have not added troop types to make this a more universal fifteenth century ruleset to allow their use in the Burgundian Wars .
Spectacular ancient game with 2mm figures , very much looked the part.
Lovely painted cloth battlefield and croupier sticks to aid figure movement.
Another view of the unique and innovative terrain for the game I mentioned earlier.
A visually stunning Samurai naval clash in 28mm with terrific boats and home made wreckage waiting to be deployed.
28mm ancient game. Sadly I did not see any 18th century games at the show, perhaps I missed them.

Detailed and interesting 28mm game with loads of books and information at the side of the table.

Finally my purchases or rather my only purchase-

The three of us who went to the show all bought a copy . We shall see if they are indeed a solution to our gaming needs. A most enjoyable show and day out!

Volare Cantare’s place in the sun- scalcagnato

Welcome to Scalcagnato, The Duchy of Volare Cantare’s overseas colony. Unbiased accounts of the tiny North African fishing village see it a place to pass through rather than to stay yet to the Duke it is a glorious place albeit tiny and a tad run down.

Visit Scalcagnato and see the Askari training! Below a Volare Cantare Airways poster to this destination.
Tourists are flocking to the must go destination of the season…
Meanwhile back in the Duchy the Border Gendarmerie are put through their paces watched over by a rather bored cow.
The above was an excuse to paint up some figures and try out uniforms for Volare Cantare forces to take on the small Germanic states…

It’s a flat trap and I’ve been caught

 This arrived from Berlin today-

Some transport to go with the semi flats, a few more civilians and a mountain castle as scenery to go with my interwar imaginations. The sleigh is to potentially use for 18th century sleigh races inspired by pictures l have by Georg Daniel Heumann.

Bigger unit, how to base…

This is a bigger unit for the Tradgardland forces, an infantry regiment this time. It will be based in a similar way to the dragoons, six figures on a 50mm base. The unit is 48 figures including four standard bearers, four drummers and four officers. I am looking for ideas about how to distribute the standard bearers, drummers and officers amongst the eight bases that will constitute the unit.

Saw this and thought of you Nundanket

Birthday yesterday

We were in Edinburgh yesterday for my youngest’s birthday-

Breakfast at Blend, our splendid new local coffee place
Canalside coffee in the centre of Edinburgh in the shadow of this splendid bridge below-
The inevitable picture of our breakfast venue garden below-

A wee wander about in the City before an excellent lunch in Tuk Tuk, highly recommended btw.
