The Sargent showing the new platoon transport to an unconvinced ARP warden.
The platoon training with the new transport.
Admiring the sign writing skills on the van. The ARP warden is still unconvinced.
Local top brass having a shufti.
Notes
- Miniature signage by my middle daughter, using her artistic skills.
- Both sides of my family were from Pork Butcher stock. They came from Germany around 1900 and had shops in Leith and Edinburgh. My father was the first not to work in the shops.
- There was a large German Pork Butcher community in England and Scotland.
- 1927 was the year my father was born.

Very well done and a great addition, super idea to link it to the family.

Very nice! I love the personalised van! It tells it's own story.
ReplyDeleteMe too, certainly does.

Wonderful, now you have a very valuable family heirloom on your tabletop! You'll need to ask the 'Middle Daughter' to create more signage for various businesses in the district :)
ReplyDeleteNow there is a plan…

I love how you've worked your family history into this. I've always wondered how Gruber was a Scottish name. Will the Home Guard see any action I wonder? Will any invaders be rasher enough to mess with them? :)
ReplyDeleteThanks. Indeed re name. Hope to get a the van in a game very soon…

Excellent signwriting. UpTwo Three, Bang Two Three …
ReplyDeleteIndeed. Parachutists beware!

Superb. Your daughter did a marvellous job with the signage and the added significance of it makes it all the better.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes, James
Exactly! She has done me proud.

Lovely stuff! That's some very creative artwork.
ReplyDeleteHandy at times having an art school graduate as a daughter. Actually got two!

Alan, that's just brilliant! I think that's also a great way to capture your family connection, too.

I concur!

Haha - that is great Alan! It's a rarity to see "& Daughters" in a company name but I used to drive past signage for an Auckland Property Development company Baigent & Daughters, so it's not unheard of!
ReplyDeleteHaving three daughters l had to get them in!
