Enjoyable visit to Claymore in Edinburgh followed by an excellent BBQ .
The blurb from an excellent 18th century game.Lovely Imperialist.
Excellent Ottomans.
A public participation game. Liked the use of a full sized shield plus background info.
Gask ridge towers and Romans were most effective.
A charming TYW scratch built fort.
Figures from the above game in 15mm , great effect en masse
Battle of Linlithgow in 15mm
They also did it in 28mm , l think, with Wofun flats.
I do enjoy seeing a Napoleonic naval game.
A Border Reivers skirmish which looked fun to play.
My only purchases. Rules from the folk putting on the 15mm TYW game, love the name of them! Book from Balkan Dave who was putting on the excellent 18th century Turks v Imperialists game.
Lovely bbq and catch up with friends and family in the late afternoon /evening. For the first time ever a seagull attempted to take food from the bbq whilst it was cooking!
I enjoyed chatting to old friends and new at the show and to those putting on the games. Particular mention of a reader of this blog who brought Airfix related magazine articles for me photograph. Thank you for your thoughtfulness. More on this anon…

Looks like a great day Alan - you are fortunate to have a show like this within easy travelling distance.
ReplyDeleteOne time we were in Rotorua - about as inland as you can get in New Zealand but on the edge of a large lake. I was eating a steak pie, had just taken a bite and was holding the open pie in my hand .... when a %$&^#$ seagull swooped down, hovered next to me and grabbed a piece of steak out of the pie then flew off!
There is also a Falkirk show. I am fortunate indeed.
DeleteSeagulls, grrrr.

Looks like it was a super day all round Alan, even with those pesky gulls!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely!

I am contemplating extending/reusing my ECW collection into thirty years war. So tempting! Looks like a nice wargames show. There aren't as many good ones left to go to in my neck of the woods (hardly any in fact!).
ReplyDeleteThat is currently my plan for my Minifigs Ecw collection too. It has always been a good show since way back when.

I must have missed you on the day Alan. I had put some Swedes aside for you. They'll probably be there next year.
ReplyDeleteJim
A big shame. Any chance l could pay you to post them to me?

Hi Alan
DeleteGive me your postal address and I'll see if I can swing your way in Fife in the coming days.
I have a 20 man unit of Swedes painted and based in the old school style for a nominal cost.
I also have a bundle of unpainted Swedes, odds and sods which you are welcome to for a charitable donation of your choice.

Looks like a great day out and nice to see a game from GDWS... my first club!
ReplyDeleteMemories indeed. My first club was SESWC who put on the show still.

Always enjoy viewing a 28mm Ottoman Army in a wargame. Planning to use mine in the very near future at a local club. Thanks, Alan, for the view!
ReplyDeleteMichael
Absolutely but l do prefer the Austrians. I hope you will pop a battle report on your blog…

I've had a seagull attack a barbecue grill when it was on the fire and a baboon grab a packet of crisps from my hand on a picnic. Also had another baboon charge at me when I had a cheese roll. The roll went in the opposite direction while I ran for the car.
ReplyDeleteBaboons are another level! Gosh!
