Britains Enemy

I am indebted to Mark from the Man of Tin blog for the photo below:

 It shows the Enemy figures produced by Britains. I like the grey battle dress, black  webbing and black helmets. Some of the figures below will be getting such a makeover . I am looking forward to seeing what they look like. To me the grey uniform has a East German feel to it or perhaps Soviet. Or a nod to WW2 that wasn’t that long ago when the figures came out.

Painting : one to one scale

Much of today was spent painting the bathroom. I enjoyed listening to 1920s German swing, From Genesis to Revelation by Genesis and Al Stewart’s Year of the Cat as I worked. Some reading material arrived-

 I did get some time to move the flats forward a little-

Still thinking about multi basing as opposed to single but no fixed plans yet. They are fragile and multi basing might protect them more. Thinking of doing civilians and vignettes as singles but warriors as groups on multi bases.

Grey Herald modern infantry in grey?

Someone recently mentioned that Britains released their Modern infantry painted grey or moulded in grey plastic as the enemy. Has anyone got any photos of these as they were released or further information?

Flats: taking a tentative step forward

Worked on the flats today. Acrylic paint then a wash. Basing is card and textured paint.

 Quite pleased so far. They need more details added and still working out the basing but I am pleased with them so far. Won’t win prizes but certainly worth a go. I enjoyed the experience and will continue it over the coming days.

Flats , a way in...

One of the Virtual Wargames Club chaps ( Paul Robinson) is working on some SYW flats and has produced some beautiful work with them. He seems to bring out their beauty and animation. Readers of this blog will remember I purchased some prepainted ones during lockdown. I also purchased quite a few unpainted. Today I looked them out-

They are Late Scandinavian Bronze Age. I am entranced by them. For example the figure cutting corn is so simple but so incredibly well animated he seems to almost come to life.

I have not put brush to tin for a couple of reasons. Firstly they have incredibly fine flash on them and I have an aversion to little metal bits fearing they will get into eyes or under skin. There is so much I don’t know how to tackle it safely and sensibly. Secondly I am a mediocre painter and am quite happy to admit it. It hasn’t stopped me enjoying the hobby and my efforts on occasion. Yet with these figures I am filled with a sense of not diminishing them with my efforts and the need to do justice to the figures. Any thoughts?

Further afield

First time out of Dunfermline since  early March today. Accompanying  my daughter to begin PGDE in Biology at University of Glasgow.

T junction

A very quick game using The Portable Wargame rules and 54mm figures. The Danes have been ordered to defend the road junction against advancing paratroopers.
