A different kind of show

Yesterday l attended my first Toy Soldier Show. It was held in a school in Chalk Farm ,London. I had a great time and really enjoyed catching up with Anthony,Brian and Mike. The show was an incredible collection of figures of all shapes and sizes except 28mm. Very expensive painted figures rubbed shoulders with plastic figures, the big company sellers with the small unnamed stall. I loved it. I was amazed by the variety on display including some boxed figures l had not seen since my childhood, there as if time had stood still since 1965. There was the enjoy of having a great rummage and seeing what  came up , fantastic fun. An important difference between this and the wargames shows l have attended is the need for cash. Few vendors take cards. Now what you are waiting for,my  purchases-
Not a good photo l know but they are Starlux French mountain troops in winter warfare kit.l just couldn’t resist.

  1. Its a show Ive always wanted to attend. Im not certain why given as I only have a few 54mm Airfix medievals but I just think it would be fun.

  2. Sounds like an interesting day ... shame it's in the Great Wen, which I always avoid at all costs.

  3. Hi Alan, I'm very glad you enjoyed the show and felt it was worthwhile making the trip. It was great having a chat with you-will you be coming to the June show? It seems the annual Woking games day and the London Toy Soldier Shows are the most convenient times to meet up for a good old chinwag! I found our discussion re the best scale of military vehicle to use with 54mm WW2 infantry very helpful. Both you and Brian are on the same wavelength and this has helped me decide my collecting strategy-I will go for Solido/Corgi tanks for grid-based games like memoir 44. Best wishes, Anthony

    1. It was good to chat and glad my input helped. I won't make the June show sadly. Awaiting flight home which is due to be delayed one hour forty.

  4. Lovely snow troopers - a nice match for the Airfix German Mountain troops, still around as recent Airfix recast in boxes, and even old Britain’s snow troopers on skis (Finnish?)

  5. Indeed, l had not gone to the show with any particular purchase plan but fell for these fellows. Skis and hunting horn ,what’s not to like? I don’t recall the Britains figures in such kit. I am tempted so see what is out there in the terms of Italian Alpini too.
