Matters of scale and taste

I ordered this and it arrived today in a lovely blue box-

A thing of joy to behold ,pressing many nostalgia buttons for me. Here it is (1/72) with some 54 figures on my gaming cloth-

I like the look of them together and feel it gives the result l am after , a game aesthetic based on 1930s toy soldiers ,vehicles and home made scenery. I would however be very interested to see what you think.

  1. My first thought was "Wow! What an attractive model/toy" so I looked them up on the web and soon found myself thinking "I'd better get out of here quick!!"

My 3rd thought is that Marx used to do this with underscale vehicles, just not as drastically usually, more like 1/48th with 1/32 figures but same idea and so does Memoir, Axis & Allies etc. As long as they are "game pieces" (sic) for games and not a diorama it works well enough.

I find there is a lot of imagination needed to fully enjoy this sort of game anyway but in my case my imagination can handle it better than say a "skirmish" game where 1 figure is 1 figure and all the terrain and figures are to scale but the other end of a house is long rifle range!

    1. They are tempting indeed. I feel very much like your third thought.

  2. ps, I've been thinking about handing over the 1930's to my 1" Marx figures but they could use some appropriate vehicles and guns..... they've taken over my tiny Dinky Light Tank bought for my 40's...

  3. Wonderful little tank - great acquisition. Scale doesn't bother me much if the game is fun and that game of yours looks like super fun!

  5. It's a little beauty! It has a look of an interwar Tankette, a little like the Italian ones. There is a 42mm Irregular Miniatures Vickers light tank and Russian armoured car that you probably shouldn't look at ... maybe a little too big?

    1. I fear they are a tad big but splendid in their own right.

  7. If it works for you that's the main thing. I don't recall how they scaled, but when I was a kid I used the little plastic airfix figures alongside matchbox vehicles. And they were from different eras!

  8. I love them. My 'modern' armies are Skybirds figures. The new reproduction vehicles are lovely.
