Zoom Game

I had a most enjoyable Zoom game with Brian C this afternoon- Army Star Spangled v Army Maple Leaf. This represented a fictional interwar invasion of Canada by America. Some time ago Brian wrote a set of rules to use with Mark’s Little Soldiers in 28mm and most enjoyable they were. Brian’s spin on Memoir 44. I suggested that the rules would work with 54mm figures too. So began the project you see in the pictures. Brian painted the figures ( Armies in Plastic) and kitbashed the splendid armoured cars. I took some screenshots during the game-

Notice Brian’s cross shaped houses and Warbases 2d trees.
Armoured car trundling forward…
The armoured car is hit !
Playing cards decided which side moved…
Advancing and defending infantry in action.
The rules …

A most enjoyable afternoon’s entertainment and another example of how one doesn’t need tons of figures for an interesting tactical game.

  3. Great looking game! So true that a good game doesn't necessarily need a lot of figures.

  5. Memories Of 34 - Marks Little Soldiers MLS - remote Zoom gaming - all sounds like a great stylish colourful article to write up for the glossy wargames magazines?

  6. It was a fun game, we should play more often than we manage. The armoured cars are styrene sheet bodies on the chassis from the Airfix Old Bill Bus and Dennis Fire Engine kits. The figures were a simple paint job enhanced by a wash and gloss varnish. The only slight problem is that over Zoom they look rather similar so I may repaint one side. The X shaped houses are an idea I stole so as to leave plenty of space in the square for the figures. The grid is marked by dots at the corners which Alan says generally show up ok on his screen but need to be a bit more prominent for remote gaming. I think a cloth for zoom games is likely needed. Not being a computer techie I'm pleased that the webcam set up works well enough to play a game.
