Paint

I am gradually running out of paint. Over the years I have bought one pot at a time as needed. Now I find that l am coming to the end of many pots as some dry out and others finish. I fear the time has come for a more radical restock!
I am looking for ideas of how to do so economically online. All ideas gratefully received.

  1. Tradgardmastare,

I use a combination of paints, some of which can be bought quite cheaply. The later are craft acrylic paints from THE WORKS. They come in sets (usually a range of colours including black, white, blue, yellow, green, and red) and the paint is in tubes ... which means there is no air gap and this helps to prevent the paint drying out. They are also relatively thick, and I find that squeezing some paint onto a plastic palette and using a wet or damp brush allows me to vary the fluidity of the paint as I apply it.

It might be worth buying a set and seeing how you get on with them.

    All the best,

    Bob

  5. I'm using Citadel and Vallejo (from Wayland), with some craft tubes for bases and buildings. Wayland seem to be the cheapest place to buy, even after adding on postage.

  6. The wonderful Wilko's stock a series of brilliant acrylic paint in large tubes. They are £2.00 each. I use their Burnt Umber for undercoating and bases. As for my main paints. I recommend attending a few shows and sifting through the end of line paints that some dealers stock.

  7. Miniature Paints and Vallejo are likely to be sold at Claymore again.

Another thought is ebay. I have bought lots of paints there, usually for half price or less. You can find Citadel paints, Army Painter, Vallejo, Andrea, Humbrol, Tamiya ... almost any that you want.

I don't know if it's some people who try to get back into the hobby but then, for whatever reason, give up and sell off their stuff. And there's companies there too selling at a discount.

    cheers,
    Tom

  8. I suggest Decoart Americana. Acrylic paint with a huge range and far far cheaper than any of the usual waragming suspects (e.g. Vallejo). Have a look on Amazon although you can also get them very cheaply from the USA (even taking intoa ccount the postage)

I've gradually swapped all my paints over to them.
