Weekend woodland walk

I enjoyed a walk in the local woods at the weekend. Interested too in this former police station now houses. It retains a double door which must have been for horses or early police car. I cannot find photos of it when first built or in its former role.

  1. When I was but a lad in the old village of Newcraighall I was pally with the local police sergeants son. The family stayed in the ex-police station which still had cells with great big steel doors. Great for playing in. They had a dog in a great big wooden kennel outside but we were not allowed to play with him as he was a working police dog. Just checked Google Streetview and the building is not there now.

  2. The former police station looks like a nice building. Almost Arts & Crafts style.

Lovely Autumnal photos of the woods.

    1. I am a big fan of the Arts and Crafts movement and architecture. The building really caught my eye before and I would dearly like to see photos of it in its heyday.

    2. It reminds me of a house in Whitstable I was lucky enough to live in as a student.

  3. Old converted buildings like that are cool, sometimes quite quirky (in a good way). Lovely pics of the woods, too.

  4. If you have a local history or nostalgia group on Facebook, this is sometimes a good way to track down old photos and memories of such buildings from past inhabitants. Happy Hunting.

  5. An interesting place. The 1920s police house in my old home village closed recently, which I find odd since the local population is growing by the year and should need more police presence.
