Margaret Tarrant..

I knew of her work as a child and liked it. I still do as an an adult. Years ago I helped out the local Brownie pack on some occasions. The woman who ran the pack always sent me a Tarrant card when she wrote to thank me. I liked the juxtaposition of the real with the fantastic. Here are some of her beautiful illustrations including simple but moving nativity scenes-

  1. Lovely and moving. I appreciate the dichotomy of ancient and modern in the nativity scenes as well.

  2. Is her work known at all in the USA?

    1. From what I can tell, not a outside of a few individuals. I’d not heard of her until now. I’m excited to show my wife her work. Being a preschool teacher, she loves art of children and babies, and several of the little blonde girls in Tarrant’s works look like our oldest.

  3. Thanks for sharing these (and the lovely Tarrant Christmas card) - I shall put a link at some point to this post and especially the Brownie picture with faerie folk on the Scouting Wide Games for the Tabletop blog
