Taking Eric Knowles Ottomans forward or the mojo returns

I have put aside various ideas to concentrate on taking the part I got of the Eric Knowles Ottomans onto the wargaming table. This involves painting and basing, both of which have been done today. Here are some of the figures I have been working on along with a picture of Eric’s boxes in which the figures came to me-

I am unsure whether to flock or not. Their Austrian opponents are flocked but we will see. I also based some Austrian cavalry I had got last year. They have helmets which were used when fighting the Turks. More to be done tomorrow...

    1. Thanks Ross, I do like the old school Minifigs a great deal and they are accessible to paint.

  2. Fascinating to see what was crossed out and once resident in the boxes. A good thing to get these back into battle, their tiny tin hearts will be proud!

    1. The boxes fascinated me too. I am not organised at all and have to trawl through unmarked boxes when trying to find anything. Perhaps labelling would be a useful job for me to contemplate later in the year. I do feel these Tin soldiers deserve a chance to fight. Eric organised them, a very few came painted and I want to take them onto the battlefield...

  4. They look good! Impressed that you did them all in a day, I am not managing anyhting like that rate! I hope ol' Eric is looking down fondly. I'm enjoying his eclectic selection of packaging, too - proper 'old school'.

  5. David do not be impressed unduly, what I meant was some figures were painted and some were based! I will have to be more precise next time. I do like the packaging which I will retain when all the boxes are empty.

  6. Love my Ottoman 28mm collection, tempted to view them again. The figures you have are a mixture of Minifigs and Dixon, I recognise the latter.

    1. The Dixon fellows are mine , the rest Eric’s. Ottomans are colourful indeed.

  7. Ottomans were an army I'd often considered but my son beat me to it - he finished up painting the unpainted ones I'd originally bought plus ones he got himself, mainly a Hinchliffe army as I recall. It's still here somewhere - must look it up!

  8. I’d like to see pictures if you find it. I had an army of Hinchcliffe Cossacks way back, great figures they were too.

    1. I'll try and dig them up sometime and post them. Thing to remember when you see them - think he was abot 11-13 when he painted them. But then, by that time he was already an experienced painter!

  9. I did wonder where Eric's Ottoman army went to. I am pleased that it has found a good home. They will look wonderful when you have completed them.
