I took this old friend to town on Sunday. It will be sent away to the maker for repairs and rewax. Staff were really helpful in the shop-
I have had the coat for years now and am very fond of it.. The label below shows when it was last dealt with. Finally an interesting article about Barbours in the Falklands-
Fascinating about the unofficial use of barbours in the Falklands - makes sense. Good that you can get your old trusty one rewaxed.
ReplyDeleteFor many years working outdoors, I used a Barbour type alternative (made by Clares) issued to my dad by his works! Rewaxed a couple of times. We have now been given company waterproofs and Dad’s old wax jacket is now pretty tatty, frayed, musty and ragged beyond further public wear. Rather than throwing it out, I have been cutting fragments off the jacket to make the canvas drapes of soft skin vehicle models, tarps, tents for my toy soldiers as needed. I’m sure my Dad would approve.
Glad you found the article interesting. I enjoyed the story of your father’s jacket. Splendid use of it now, I am sure he would approve. You must post some pics of its use on your blog ( which I still cannot comment on) as others would enjoy hearing of this reuse too.
