Trying out scenery

This afternoon I tried out some semi flat scenery and 40mm figures to see what the look of the thing was. The chalets are heavy lead homecasts, bought as such. I wanted to try a 3d grid effect. Interesting but hard to stand figures on. Maybe next stage is cardboard boxes or wooden blocks with grid marks on them rather than the felt cloth…

  1. Those are crude figures but like many crude figures they possess a certain charm. I look forward to seeing whole units of them, especially in the fictional color schemes. I am thinking of painting some of my later WW1 Germans AIP or even WW2 Airfix in the grey with light blue color scheme. The simple scenery you use suits the figures.

    1. Homecasts like these do indeed have a certain charm. I look forward to seeing your AIP or Airfix painted in that uniform.

  2. I mounted my 40mm classic toy soldiers on round washers, precisely to give them some more stability. Some pictures here: https://snv-ttm.blogspot.com/2022/01/card-driven-narrative-wargaming-4.html and here: https://snv-ttm.blogspot.com/2020/02/imaginations-in-42mm-19.html

The scenery "look and feel" is indeed a difficult question. I'm still osscilating between "realistic" scenery and more toy-like scenery, as here: https://snv-ttm.blogspot.com/2016/04/imaginations-in-42mm-3.html

  5. That's a really neat set of scenery :-) I've had some good comments from friends that my set fits well with the glossy toy soldier style.
