Gaudete Sunday

Gaudete Sunday is the third Sunday of Advent in the liturgical calendar of Western Christianity, including the Roman Catholic Church, the Anglican Communion, Lutheran Churches, and other mainline Protestant churches. It can fall on any date from 11 December to 17 December. Rose vestments are worn. It is a day of celebration as we look forward to Christmas.

Later on in the day and back home the tree was decorated-

Splendid teamwork indeed! Tomorrow’s game (vbcw) has been postponed due to a combination of car trouble, ice and snow. The black ice in my immediate vicinity was horrendous this morning and I nearly didn’t make it to the bus stop. A fall some years ago, knocking myself out for some seconds, has left me very, very, wary indeed. I think a day at home is probably in order tomorrow .

  1. Rightly said that "rose" is the commonly used colour for the Third Sunday of Advent. An option used by many Lutheran Churches in North America is "Sarum blue", as it happens it's the same blue used for senior Girl Scout uniforms in the US.

  2. Yes, by the look of recent weather reports and images from around the UK, I would say inside with some figures to paint or play with would be the wisest option, Alan!

  3. Not being religious I know nothing of these services but do find them fascinating. As for the weather, it is treacherous out there, thankfully my dog is not up for it either, so it's quick walks just now!!

  5. Thanks for bringing the light of advent this month! We haven’t been to church this month since we’ve had sick kiddos, so it’s nice see others celebrating as we draw near. Can’t wait to see what fills the void of the VBCW game.

    1. I hope the family are feeling better very soon and that you get back to Church soon. Yesterday saw a little painting and modelling but other business took over.

  6. Tree looks great!
Yeah, I'd say it's prudent to be wary of ice. I've known too many people take nasty falls, resulting in broken noses, broken or torn shoulders, etc. Not worth knocking yourself out over it.
