Monday morning painting
I thought some regular readers of this blog might enjoy this painting filled with great uniform information.
More inspiration for the 1870s Army Star Spangled project. Have a good day wherever you are!
When the Centennial of Independence Day was coming around, the US Army was asked to provide information on what the Soldiers wore back then and what they were wearing currently (1876). The States were unable to comply, as nobody thought to write and codify a lot of that information. So, hurriedly they got together their Militia uniforms and tried to put together some kind of coherent package of images and information. It went all pear shaped, since the States and Territories still kind of did their own thing... Fascinating stuff, Alan. Love to see where this project is going.
The US military of the 19thC certainly went in for uniforms in a big way!
