Converting and basing for 1549 in 40mm

Today I have been doing some background reading for my Landsknechts in Devon project . As well as that I have been working on converting some figures-
With the 40mm figures above I have used some bows and arrow bags from a Perry Miniatures late Medieval sprue. I think they do look in case so far but the proof will be in the finished items when painted.
I based and textured the Landsknechts etc and here they are drying.
The Helion book is a compelling and fascinating read and I would recommend it to those interested in 16th Century history and warfare. Helion are producing some excellent books ( and have done so for some time ) and are deserving of our support.

  1. Alan Glad you have found some 40mm Archers - I never realised that Perry Miniatures did two 40mm ranges - beautiful figures but not quite Pound Store penny dreadfuls in price!

  2. The Perry figures have quite a later 16th Century vibe to them and I am unsure whether to buy any, they are lovely figures though. This project would have been much simpler in 28mm but the desire to include my boyhood Elastolins has driven the scale choice. I feel that a combo of 1525 figures , wotr stuff and a few others will give the look I desire.
I am interested to see how these 28mm sprue parts will work with these German renaissance figures...

    1. I did my 1549 set up in 6mm - far more forgiving of the occasional anachronism!

    2. Fascinating, can you tell me more about your 1549 set up? What rules did you use by the way?

    3. I represented most of the units that I could find details on so I ended up with a pretty colourful Royal army. The rebels are standard bow and bill units plus dismounted gentry.
For rules,I used my own DBA variant.

    4. Ps: I used some of these for a 'what if' game based on the Pigrimage of Grace which I posted on the Portable Wargame Facebook page recently.

  3. I'm a bit late to the party here Alan, but are you going to use any Irregular Renaissance figures? They are excellent.

  4. I ordered the book last week. My 40mm armies were initially sparked but al old magazine clipped titled Landsknects in Devon (or something like that) was a major prod as well. Double use for my English and Landskects and other mercenaries.
