The cover of the book.
I found the Bren carrier camouflage fascinating
I really like the style of the map and the depiction of mountainous terrain.
Fascinating photo of Ethiopian troops.
Somewhere in the loft I think I still have my father’s books of a similar vintage. I must look them out
Hi...I did model 'Abyssinia' with the Italians in 1/72nd (prior to 1900)...the Campaign did not go well for the Italians- disasterous in fact. Enjoy finding old books to study.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds an interesting project, what scale was that in?
DeleteInspiring pictures and an interesting read I'd imagine
ReplyDeleteI do like the sepia photos very much.
DeleteAn interesting but rather forgotten campaign .
ReplyDeleteSadly forgotten in the public consciousness.
DeleteI lived and worked for 3 years in Eritrea and lived in Asmara, I worked at the US Embassy. A fascinating and beautiful country. the campaign would have been very hard as the terrain of the battlefields around Karen are mountainous and rocky, I have walked over part of it. The British cemetery in Keren is very well kept up.
ReplyDeleteInteresting to here. It is always moving to hear stories of how cemeteries are maintained. Some years ago I went with the class I taught at the time visit the war graves near the school and during our visit a man arrived in a van from the organisation who maintains them . He is most interesting to talk to and took evident pride in his job.
DeleteFascinating book (and the carrier camouflage) - looked up the Keren Cemetery CWGC website which has interesting account of the campaign https://www.cwgc.org/find-a-cemetery/cemetery/2026502/keren-war-cemetery/
