Having not played against my regular opponents since Lockdown began it was great to meet up via Zoom for a game and a chat yesterday. We played DBA for the first time in years and it was a most enjoyable experience. I had forgotten what a fun game it was. We used two chariot based armies. Took some rigging up but we got there in the end. Hopefully this will be a regular fixture.
Hi Alan- Yes, playing over the Internet has really taken off - lots of enthusiasts are enjoying the Technology. I read that COW is being done in a virtual way - because of restrictions Knudston Hall won't be open this year for the Convention. Cheers. KEV.
ReplyDeleteInteresting re Cow, internet games have certainly taken off.
DeleteThat’s great to see you were able to get a game in Alan.
ReplyDeleteGoing to be a regular thing I hope.
DeleteI loved the old WRG rules and followed them faithfully through 2nd, 3rd and 4th editions. Fifth started to get a bit complex and 6th was no fun.
ReplyDeleteI never tried DBA. Obviously missed something!
Ronnie
Played 5th edition, then 6th at Uni & beyond and actually quite liked them. Dba came along and was a fun wee game leading on to dba which I play against my long standing regular opponents. Dba worked so well as a game for a few hours after a long working day. Although it seems jargon filed it can actually be played with most of the rules carried in the head and has no order sheets/ paperwork what so ever. Do you have your ancient armies still and in what scale? I play mainly in 28mm.
DeleteI have a 25mm 6th century Byzantine army packed away somewhere and an unpainted 28mm early Imperial Roman one probably in the same box!
ReplyDeleteI imagine that not too many figures are needed for a DBA game.
Ronnie
Sounds like you mothballed the hobby and are just picking it up again,or perhaps I am wrong. I used to like the way Byzantines and others could select their weapons as a golfer selects his clubs, same with polish winged hussars etc in the wrg renaissance rules. Dba uses elements and probably less than fifty figures aside depending on Army type.
DeleteAbsolutely right on all accounts! I kept buying the magazines, rules and figures and making the plans but life always got in the way. Finding time for myself now.

What are your plans re ancients, if any?

ReplyDeleteSorry, Alan. Pressed the wrong button!
DeleteI have no plans regarding ancients at the moment as I'm concentrating on the lead mountain of figures for the '45. But you never know! By the way, I've
a few 30mm ancient flats in one of the numerous unpacked boxes. They are mainly Roman but you're welcome to have them if they are of interest.
I think I saw your comments earlier, I wondered why you removed them?
DeleteAh, all sorted. I would be most interested in your flats.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind offer.
DeleteNo problem, Alan. Or at least no problem once I find them!
