Seventy Five Years Ago Today

Just finished watching the BBC coverage of V.E Day starting at 21:00. I was most moved by it, by the Queen’s Father’s speech and her speech this evening too. As for the television  a fitting tribute I think.

  1. Tradgardmastare,

I absolutely agree. It hit exactly the right note.

    All the best,

  2. I agree too. This was a national family on the sofa moment watching 'live' moment.

I liked her ATS cap on her desk. No medals, which arguably she must have, just a plain service cap. So odd to see the cut away to her on the balcony in 1945 in uniform and back to today.
Then and Now footage was well handled and paired throughout.

Having seen the Kings Speech film, I thought the opening archive clip of a few seconds of her father bravely struggling through his slow halting Victory speech (at great personal and emotional cost over the years) then cutting away to his picture on her desk was very well done too. It was also thankfully a short speech.
