Wouldn’t it be nice or winter terrain begun
Used what I had and with the help of my daughters painting produced this. So useful for lots of different scenarios and periods. A good day’s work.
Somehow the Beach Boys - Geek points - Californian dreaming of sunshine and beaches seems a long way from mysterious dark forests full of threat and dead ends, especially when the Forest closes round you and you are no longer members of the Lost Patrol. Great team work and speedy improvisation, much in the spirit of the Sharpie doodles on cardboard, but even more 3D.
I got the Mdf bases from warbases ( great service always from this local business btw) ages ago and they have languished in a spares box until now. I have some more on order. The trees were a pound for a wee packet from The Works got on a very rare trip uptown in November. I wish I had got more as , looking last night, there is nothing comparable available on line currently. Not surprising since it is this time of year ! The Works ones were cheap and thick which game them a three dimensionality lacking with other ones. I will probably have to proceed and add trees if and when. I would like to perhaps add some small stones to the bases and delineate the path edges. I also want to maybe add a river, pond or swampy bit too.
The 2D trees look very effective when seen in some numbers and placed at different angles. They give the appearance of thickly wooded areas that still allow figures to be placed in the hexes. An idea that is well worth copying.
When you have more hexes spare, you can create some impassable rock features with or without trees, adding some of the height that you wanted to add to your landscapes. These can fit snugly into the empty hexagon spaces that you can see between the circle of tiles. These will further block line of site. These could be deemed impassable to troops and or the natives and forest spirits etc (that can movement between the paths) .
