Games etc

Sunny here in the Duchy yesterday. The day began with sorting my eldest’s vintage chins collection and putting it into solid plastic storage boxes in the shed thus freeing up some floor space in my room.

I took the chance to sort my boardgames.

Ivor was a bargain in a charity shop and is an enjoyable game with lovey components and map. If  I were arty I always fancied producing my own counters and using the map for a VBCW game...

Jan was never one for games really. When the girls were small I played boardgames with them and she did craft with them, an equitable division of labour. Years ago friends brought ‘Ticket to Ride” round and amazingly Jan really liked the game. We think of her when we play it . I never have worked out how to play the LOTR card game sadly. I think that Tokaido is my favourite. It is a calming game of journeying in Edo Japan and quite entrancing to play. Well worth seeking out.

  1. I recognise many of those china pieces from my Mum's own cupboards.

  2. Hi Alan- my-my you certainly have a good amount of Board Games- IVOR looks an interesting one. The only game I have is 'WIND in THE WILLOWS' - it is appealing as it has painted miniatures of the main characters. Cheers. KEV.

  3. Ivor does look interesting. And the Wind in the Willows sounds good too Kev.
    One of the best new boardgames we have played is Carcassone. I really like the Princes Quest boardgame from Edwardian times though the board is tiny. https://manoftinblog.wordpress.com/2016/06/19/the-princes-quest-board-game/

    My favourite (as I find Monopoly too argumentative etc) of the last ten years was a Postman Pat children's board game where you had to deliver your pile of letters around the board and then get home - dull stuff. The genius trick was if you rolled a 3, you could place the sheep piece blocking the roadway to hamper other players or favour your friends! The next roller of 3 could move the sheep anywhere they wanted. Simple. Genius!

    I have a new 'design your own' Board Games book that I ought to put on the blog too, https://www.amazon.co.uk/Board-Games-Create-Play-friends/dp/1911624296

    There is a strange set of YouTube lecture (low tech whiteboard and pen) videos about board games design by scientist and Libertarian US academic and board games collector George Phillies who was involved back in the day with the D and D creators https://manoftinblog.wordpress.com/2018/07/01/george-phillies-us-game-design-lectures-on-youtube/

  6. Hornsea pottery?
    I bought Tokaido after you mentioned it, rather lovely to look at and gentle, as you say. Bit worried about Ivor in VBCW, I hope he is not forced to choose between fascist ('made the trains run on time') and communist..

    1. I will check the make out with my daughter. I am pleased you bought and like Tokaido. Be assured it will be civil indeed for Ivor if I ever get round to taking my thought further.

  7. Chuckled at the "vintage chins" typo. :D

    The Ivor game looks good. I like that style of illustration, as you might have guessed from a recent post of my own. The LOTR card game is hard (not too complicated, but difficult to win). Having things like the Ticket to Ride game that brings back fond memories is good.

    God bless you sir, I will not stop telling the world about your kindness in my life, I am a single mum with kids to look after. My name is Emily Peterson and I am from Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, FL. A couple of weeks ago My friend visited me and along with our discussion she told me about MR LORENZO DIEGO LOAN FIRM FINANCE, that they can help me out of my financial situation, I never believed cause I have spent so much money on different loan lenders who did nothing other than running away with my money. I have been in a financial mess for the pass 7 months now, She advised I give it a try so I mailed him and explain all about my financial situation to him, he therefore took me through the loan process and gave me a loan of $390,000.00 at a very low interest rate of 2% and today I am a proud business owner and can now take good care of my kids, If you must contact any firm to get any amount of loan you need with a low interest rate of 2% and better repayment schedule, please contact MR LORENZO DIEGO LOAN FIRM FINANCE email:- {mrlorenzodiegoloanfirm@outlook.com}
