B day etc

It was my middle daughter’s 28th Birthday today.

Anna and I went to St Andrews and had an enjoyable lunch at Northpoint cafe.
As ever a walk along the beach was in order . Weather was kind to us and it was very pleasant.
Presents followed , she is a huge Percy Pig fan…
Family members came round for a meal and Angus baked a splendid birthday cake.
In St Andrews I discovered a bookshop I hadn’t been in before, went in and found this- very reasonable at £6.50. -
I am particularly interested in the scenic aspects of railway modelling and the development of the fully integrated scenic approach. This book has some fascinating articles about “ Notable Model Railways” giving an account of such in words and pictures.
A good day indeed.

An excellent find Volume 1 of Model Railway News 1925! What splendid prose. Maybe we should write our blog posts in the style of these articles :)

  3. As a railway modeller as well as a wargamer I love old model railway magazines. There's a whole history of the hobby there, changing styles and unchanging moans on topics, such as how to operate layouts at exhibitions, which resurface every few years. And I've always been struck by the formal style in which articles weren't written by 'Bob Smith' but by 'R.E. Smith'.

    1. The history is fascinating to me too. Not to mention the formality.

  5. Tradgardmastare,

Please wish your daughter a happy birthday from me … and that model railway magazine collection looks very interesting indeed! (I understand that Pete Waterman is hosting a Channel 5 TV programme that will feature the model railways owned by several celebrities as well as following Francis Rossi’s progress creating his own model railway.)

    All the best,

    Bob
