Bert and Bob cast their professional eyes over some new wagons donated to the Penedredfel Light Railway-
I am greatly indebted to Brian C for donating these splendid scratch built wagon to me. I look forward to seeing them being pulled along quite soon. Brian are you able to tell us a little more about how these were made and what the different wagons are?
They look splendid !
ReplyDeleteBeautifully made (what a kind gift) and very versatile rolling stock.
ReplyDeleteThey're build on Cooper Craft Hudson skip chassis (now available here: https://www.cambrianmodelrail.co.uk/store/Cooper-Craft-16mm-Wagons-c151333268). I'll try and find the references that provided inspiration. The left hand wagon in the second photo is a maintenance wagon with tolls stored in the box. It looks like the end no longer stands upright so needs a spot of glue. In the cardboard box is a water tank wagon (I hadn't realised until I was packing it that the tank was still 'temporarily' hled in place with blu-tac. I probably intended to paint it separately from the chassis as it really wants to be a dull grey, streaked with rust and white stains around the filler cap (assuming its a hrad water area). The longer wagon with the brake standard is to provide some braking apart from the loco brakes as none of the skips were fitted with brakes. The balsa will stained nicely with a wash and worth dry brushing with grey as the wood would be untreated and looking old. Obviously the 'iron work' will need to be painted conventionally as will the styrene parts. Glad you like them, it was a project I started on years ago but was squeezed out by too many other things I wanted to do.
ReplyDeleteNice selection of wagons
